Cycle Britain

Tour Overview.

The Coast to Coast for Children Adventure Farm Trust.  Imagine spending a three-day two night weekend cycling across the country. Well, our Coast to Coast guided tour offers precisely that opportunity and squeezes a lot of fun and adventure into just three days.  In addition to three days of cycling fully supported by our expert guides, you’ll also enjoy a stay in beautiful parts of the UK.

Cycle Britain’s unique Coast to Coast route crosses Northern England from Morecambe Bay to Bridlington Harbour. Along the way, it traverses the Yorkshire Dales National Park and three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Rather than follow the peloton of cyclists who embark on the Sustrans route, we utilised our local knowledge to develop a route that embarks on quieter roads through lesser-pedaled regions for this charity event.

Cycle Britain

175 miles / 3 Days

We love making cycling more accessible. That’s why this tour welcomes cyclists of all abilities and experiences. Averaging 60 miles a day, this route is enough to challenge and provide a sense of achievement, but also remains accessible for a majority of cyclists.  So bring your e-bike and spare battery ;-), road bike or gravel bike and tackle a grand cross-country challenge with Cycle Britain.

The fully supported, guided tours remove the hassle so all you have to focus on is the riding. Allow our guides to lead the way and teach you tips and tricks that will improve your cycling ability. Let our support vehicles carry your bags, resolve any mechanicals, and replenish your energy with feed stations and drinks.  We’ll overnight at a youth hostel which allows rest.

We keep our groups small as this allows us to cater to different levels of fitness and riding experience. If you have your own group, however, we would be happy to arrange a special weekend for you. Just get in touch!

Summary of the Tour.

  1. Morecombe to Malham (43 miles)

It is customary to begin grand cross-country cycling adventures by dipping your rear wheel into the sea. That might not be possible, however, as Morecambe Bay is Britain’s second largest bay; at low tide, the sea vanishes and in its place you’ll find 310 square kilometres of empty sand. After skirting north of Lancaster, the first day is an exhilarating and scenic ride through the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and then the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Day one finishes in Malham.

  2. Malham to York (68 miles)

This morning’s ride undulates over the Yorkshire Dales with every climb, dip and twist of the road revealing more of the landscape’s beguiling beauty. A long descent sweeps you from the Yorkshire Dales and down to Pateley Bridge, a charming market town that featured in the 2014 Tour de France and boasts an award-winning High Street and idyllic stone houses. A steep climb with gradients of 19% lifts you from the picturesque town and guides you across Nidderdale AONB. Stop to admire Ripon’s 7th-century gothic cathedral and then let flat country lanes lead you to York, where today’s journey ends.

  3. York to Bridlington (62 miles)

The first 15 miles of today’s ride unfurls through your third AONB, the Howardian Hills. This captivating landscape is one of woodland, rolling hills, pastoral farmland and scenic villages, and is a delight to pedal through. Most of today’s ride is along roads which form the Yorkshire National Byway and the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route, recognising their low-traffic and scenic beauty as they roll over an outcrop of chalk hills. By now, your gaze will be set on England’s east coast. The air assumes a salty tang, a chorus of gulls squawk overhead and the road slowly descends to the sea. The sandy beaches, elegant promenade, historic harbour and abundance of seafood make Bridlington a perfect conclusion to this adventure. We celebrate with the opportunity for you to buy the best fish and chips on the sea front.
