Tour Overview.

To cycle from Land’s End to John O’ Groats (LEJOG) is to embark on a legendary cycling challenge, to commit to a thousand miles of Britain you’ll never forget. England, Wales and Scotland will all roll beneath your wheels on this route which showcases the best and most varied landscapes available.  If the 23 day tour isn’t for you, we offer either Southern England (days 1-7), Wales and rest of  England (days 8-14) or Scotland (days 15-23).  We offer these as three separate tour stages that can be booked below.  If you want the flexibility of joining a stage on a specific day, we can offer that too – in which case we can price that up for you on request. Secure your place now for our most popular signature tour.  Electrics Bikes and standard bikes are welcome.  LEJOG on an electric bike will reward you. Our 23-day e-bike itinerary is planned to allow a nice pace – roughly 45 miles (70 kilometres) per day .   We organise the electric bikes and transport them to the start and return them to the hire centre after the tour finishes.  This lower mileage ensures you savour the charming villages and breathtaking scenery we journey through. Seeing the sense of achievement on our client’s faces as they stand in John O’Groats is always one of our highlights. This tour is fully-supported. Enjoy the support of our expert team of guides (Alan Little), mechanic (Alan Little) and driver (David Broadhead)  who’ll carry your bags, distribute snacks, help with repairs and lead you along the route while sharing stories that bring each day’s riding to life! *Please note that although this is an e-bike tour, it is open for those wanting to use road bikes.

Cycle Britain

This is a fully-supported and guided tour. We provide full mechanical and qualified first aid support. For navigation, we provide the GPX file and Komoot turn by turn navigational aids as well as providing a guide to lead the way. Training guidance and advice on sports nutrition are just some of the added extras we provide.  Our team have planned a route that travels on quiet country roads for the majority of the tour.  There are many climbs and great descents leading us through lots of open countryside. There is no better way to complete one of the world’s greatest cycling challenges. From the rolling hills of Devon and Cornwall to the Highlands of Scotland, we undertake the journey staying in only the best accommodation. Alan Little and our tour leaders are experienced leaders of this challenging tour and provide any coaching you may require.  Whether you do the full 23 days, or one of the three main stages, this is a trip of a lifetime and will be something you’ll never forget.

Summary of the Tour.

  1. Land’s End to Newquay (50 miles)

    A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single pedal stroke. Begin from the much-photographed white signpost on the tip of the Penwith Peninsula, and enjoy a day of Cornish villages and rolling countryside. Finish in Newquay, which was voted ‘One of the Nation’s Favourite Seaside Towns’.

  2. Newquay to Launceston (45 miles)

    While great mountains loom ahead – the Lake District, the Scottish Highlands – today’s ride is, perhaps, the most demanding of all. With 4,300 feet of climbing (more than any other day), the elevation profile resembles a saw as the road alternates from sharp climbs to fast descents, and back again. You’ll have earned a relaxing evening in Launceston, once the capital of Cornwall.

  3. Launceston to Exeter (46.5 miles)

    It’s another hilly day as today’s ride skirts the wild moorlands and sulking tors of Dartmoor National Park. Stop for lunch in Okehampton, a mediaeval wool town turned Dartmoor’s outdoor centre, and then continue up and over the moors. Finish in the vibrant student city of Exeter.

  4. Exeter to Taunton (38 miles)

    With Cornwall behind, there is less climbing today; ‘only’ 1,875 feet across rolling Devonshire countryside, and into Somerset. A stretch of traffic-free cycling along the Grand Western Canal towpath is a particular highlight. You’ll stay in Taunton; take the chance to visit the 10th-century monastery and Taunton Castle.

  5. Taunton to Chaddar (47 miles)

    It’s a shock to emerge from Somerset’s tranquil countryside into Glastonbury, one of England’s strangest towns where myth, history, New Age culture and an overpowering whiff of incense collide! From Glastonbury, the scenery is breath-taking as you pedal across the Mendip Hills and squeeze between the walls of Cheddar Gorge.

  6. Cheddar to Chepstow (41 miles)

    Leave Cheddar via the disused ‘Strawberry Line’ railway, which is now a traffic-free cycle path. After a section hugging the Bristol Channel, you’ll fly high above it on the Severn Bridge and land in Wales on the far side. Spend the night in Chepstow and admire its imposing castle, reputedly Britain’s oldest surviving stone castle.

  7. Chepstow to Hereford (41 miles)

    It’s a day of green hills and river-carved valleys. From Chepstow, you’ll pedal through the heart of the beautiful Wye Valley and to the quaint Welsh village of Monmouth. Next, follow the River Monnow back across the border into England to finish the day in Hereford.

  8. Hereford to Church Stretton (48 miles)

    This is rural England at its finest; ride on forgotten country lanes through bucolic landscapes dotted with quaint villages. Near Onibury, you’ll enter the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is a place of transition, where the English lowlands meet the Welsh uplands. At the heart of the Shropshire Hills is the picturesque village of Church Stretton, where you’ll stay the night.

  9. Church Stretton to Nantwich (47 miles)

    Continue pedallling through the laidback tranquillity of the midlands. Punctuating these rural farmlands are the many historic towns and villages where seemingly every second building is timber-framed. This culminates in Nantwich, where you overnight, which boasts the highest concentration of listed buildings in England.

  10. Nantwich to Wigan (48 miles)

    Approaching the industrial heartlands surrounding Manchester and Liverpool, it begins to get more built up. Nonetheless, you’ll be surprised how this tour threads between these sprawling cities on cycle paths and quiet roads, uncovering a wealth of greenery and open spaces. The Sankey Valley Greenway is a particular highlight.

  11. Wigan to Lancaster (47 miles)

    This is one of the flattest days of your LEJOG journey as you follow cycle paths beside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, through the Cuerden Valley Park and then, finally, along the Lancaster Canal. Lancaster is a student city situated on a hilltop with views overlooking the River Lune.

  12. Lancaster to Appleby-in-Westmorland (52 miles)

    For 39 miles, today’s route traverses the River Lune Valley, rolling over emerald hills and crossing vast sweeps of open moorland. This corner of the country is England at its wildest, skirting the edge of two National Parks and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; The Lake District NP, the Yorkshire Dales NP, and the North Pennines AONB. This is a ride you won’t forget anytime soon. Appleby-in-Westmorland is a charming market village.

  13. Appleby-in-Westmorland to Carlisle (42 miles)

    Picturesque cycling abounds as you continue north with the mountains of the Lake District on your left, and those of the Pennines on your right. This is a remoter section with fewer villages and more wilderness, finishing in the historic town of Carlisle situated near the Scottish border.

  14. Carlisle to Moffat (45 miles)

    Leave England behind and cross into Scotland at Gretna, following the footsteps of countless young, loved-up and eloping English couples. Today’s route continues along cycle paths, allowing you to focus on the beautiful nature of the Annandale Valley. As a coaching stop, Moffat has been serving travellers for generations and the charming town promises to extend this practiced hospitality to you.

  15. Moffat to Lanark (38 miles)

    Staying at the Lanark Mill world heritage site. There’s no chance to warm up; a challenging climb begins as soon as you leave Moffat. After pedalling to 1,055 feet, the reward is a day of unspoiled nature, gentle undulations and sporadic villages. Just before reaching the bustling market village of Lanark, take a moment to savour the impressive view of the Falls of Clyde waterfalls.

  16. Lanark to Dunblane (48 miles)

    Thread through the middle of stunning wilderness in the gap between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Pass through Stirling, a former capital of Scotland, and nicknamed ‘Gateway to the Highlands’ and prepare for the scenery to become a whole lot more special.

  17. Dunblane to Tyndrum (48 miles)

    From Dunblane, the route swings west towards the jaw-dropping scenery of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs NP. Here, villages are few and far between, and it is the majestic mountains and brooding lochs which accompany your riding. Tyndrum translates as ‘the house on the ridge’ and is a popular stop for hikers on the West Highland Way.

  18. Tyndrum to Fort William (46 miles)

    Prepare to feel shrunken as the mountains and landscapes grow into giants. By the end of today’s ride, you’ll sleep at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain (Ben Nevis), but before that, you’ll cross the desolate expanse of Rannoch Moor and enjoy six miles of downhill through claustrophobic valleys into Glencoe.

  19. Fort William to Foyers (46 miles)

    It’s a flat ride to Fort Augustus, along the lapping shores of Loch Lochy and the Caledonian Canal. From Fort Augustus, however, begins a formidable climb up to a foreboding and treeless altitude of 1,240 feet, before descending back to Foyers.

  20. Foyers to Alness (44 miles)

    For 11 miles, ride beside Loch Ness; keep your eyes peeled for any strange, monstrous activities. Inverness is the United Kingdom’s northernmost city and is considered the capital of the Highlands. Take the chance to explore the city and resupply before continuing around coastal inlets to Allness, whose pretty high street has won many flower-decorating awards.

  21. Alness to Altnaharra (50 miles)

    One of the remotest sections of Land’s End to John O’ Groats, you are now firmly in the heart of the Highlands. You can expect long and empty roads, shimmering lochs and exposed mountain slopes. Altnaharra is a tiny hamlet; except for the welcome from its luxury hotel, the surroundings would appear an imposing and hostile place.

  22. Altnaharra to Portskerra (42 miles)

    It’s the penultimate day of your trip! Your spirits can’t fail to rise as you first glimpse the North Coast. From Tongue, you’ll turn right and begin pedalling along the road that will lead you to John O’ Groats. Breath-taking beaches and emerald hills characterise this section, and the barren desolation of previous days is soon forgotten.

  23. Portskerra to John O’ Groats (38 miles)

    Congratulations! Today’s the day you cross the finish line of the UK’s most epic cycling challenge! Savour the final landscapes which feel a world away from Cornwall, where this grand journey began. Quiet roads, brown heather, and a rugged coastline studded with distant islands of the Orkneys.


*If just doing one of the three main stages, please note that the itinerary below will only be relevant to that stage. You can join at any stage or any day of the tour by request. The adventure begins from the moment we point our bikes north and begin pedalling for the other side of the country! Cornwall and Devon offer stunning scenery, but also some of the toughest climbs of the entire trip. You will enjoy gorgeous coastal landscapes and the wild moorland sweeps of Dartmoor. We pass the Mendip Hills and Cheddar Gorge and then fly over the Severn Bridge into Wales for a beautiful day of riding through the Wye Valley AONB. Our time in Wales is short-lived. We’re soon back in England, where we find ourselves squeezed between the English lowlands and the Welsh uplands. This is a scenic region of bucolic countryside and historic villages that pass in the blink of an eye.  We thread between Manchester and Liverpool, cycling along a tightrope of green parks, canal towpaths and cycleways that offer an escape from these grand cities. Explode from these industrial heartlands into England’s wild north-west corner, where the mesmerising national parks of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales collide. Your LEJOG adventure has saved its best for last; everything is larger, wilder and more remote in Scotland. The moors are more barren, the shimmering lochs stretch over the horizon, and huge mountains command the landscape. This is cycling you will never forget. We stay at the world heritage site at Lanark and see the history  of battle sites and more,  At last, 23 days after you began, you will arrive at the end of this landmass. The sea blocks any further progress, the Orkney Islands dot the horizon, seagulls squawk above you, and a white signpost points to Land’s End, 874 miles away. You have arrived in John O’Groats with a more intimate understanding of Britain, a collection of memories forged in the saddle, and a deep sense of achievement.

What’s Included.

Fully supported Tour with Tour Management

Alan Little is the lead tour manager and aims to surpass your expectations. The tour will be fully supported by the Cycle Britain support vehicle. Our support manager drives the vehicle and staffs our pop-up cafe where hot drinks and snacks are available. He's there to help with anything you may need and will track you on your journey to ensure you have the support required.

Nutritious breakfasts, lunches and snacks.

After a hearty breakfast, the support vehicle becomes a pop-up cafe providing nutritious lunches, snacks, and drinks throughout your ride.

Cycle Britain tour guide, komoot mapping & detailed route notes

We are an official partner with komoot and make your route available to you once you have booked so you can check the full details of the tour. Alan Little is the guide and is a qualified advanced mountain leader with superb navigation skills. Combined with the latest technology Alan leads the route with turn by turn efficiency to allow you to enjoy the cycling.

We provide GPX and TCX files. These can be transferred onto Garmin and Wahoo. When you attend a tour you will receive all the route notes and our free guide as a PDF. Information is also provided in our navigation notes to read on arrival. With detailed trip notes, komoot mapping and your guide, you can't go far wrong


23 nights accommodation in the very best 3* or 4* star hotels or best possible option available in the area for budget available. Booked on twin or double room basis and always including breakfast. We include standard double size in the booking. (Please note that some hotels charge an additional amount for larger beds which is an additional cost where applicable).

Daily luggage transfer

We carry your bags between hotels so you don’t have to! When you arrive at the hotel your bags our team can help you with the support you need. We also manage your day-bag and ensure it’s available when you need something.

Full Mechanical Support

Alan is a quailfied Cytech Level 2 Bike Mechanic and is able to help maintain your bike. If Alan cannot resolve the issue then the support team will provide a plan to ensure the issue is resolved to your satisfaction.

What’s Not Included.

Evening meals

We will reserve the tables for you at restaurants of your choice. The cost of the meals are not included in the tour.

Bike and Helmet

Please provide your own bike and helmet for this trip. Get in touch if you have any questions regarding whether your equipment is appropriate.

Additional transport

The support has six seats and additional transport required can be organised. The additional cost is payable to the local company.

Bike Hire Additional batteries

We hire bikes on your behalf and confirm that additional batteries are not included. If you want to hire an additional battery then please let us know

Bike repairs

We include general and cleaning and basic maintennce on the tours. Any repairs that require spares are chargeable.

Transport to start at Penzance or home from the finish in John O'Groats

We have a preferred partner who can provide transport as required. Please contact us for a quote.

Accommodation before the start of the tour

The tour does not include the accommodation the night before the start of the tour. We can however organise this for your team.

Tour management outside the tour

We are avaiable to help organise anything you want outside of the tour. Our events manager can reserve all restaurants, theatre tickets, transport etc.

Transport of Hire Bikes

Our team are able to organise, check, clean and return all hire bikes. The cost will depend on distances and duration. Please ask us for a quote.

We provide 23 nights of high-quality accommodation in comfortable accommodation.   Additional accommodation can be boked on request.  The night before the tour is not included in the tour cost but can be organised is needed. On the first day we will cycle to Newquay and stay at the Pentire Hotel.  The hotel information for provisional bookings for all hotels currently booked is provided below. Day Two –  The Trehrione Golf Club.    The hotel have confirmed that all rooms are King Size.   I have requested exact sizes for details which will be updated on this page. The remaining accommodation is to be fully confirmed once the booking is confirmed fully.

Trip Suitability.

This is a Grade 3 tour, which means it is suitable for ‘regular cyclists who enjoy regular cycling whether training indoor or outside.’ The focus is on a ‘half day of cycling with fun stops and sightseeing.’ The average daily distance is 43 miles and the route includes steep gradients. Over 23 days, you will climb 48,625 feet (14,820 metres).

Can I rent an electric bike?

Yes, we have seven Cube EXC 750 2020 Kathmandu electric bikes to rent at a cost of £85 per day.

How do I charge my e-bike batteries?

All accommodation selected has the facility for charging e-bikes.

Do you cater to vegan and vegetarian diets?

Absolutely! Inform us in advance of any dietary requirements and we will be glad to cater to you.

Will we be able to wash our clothes on the trip?

There will be opportunities to wash clothes and leaders can take your items to a laundrette.

Can I charge my phone?

We have a charging station in the support van.

What level of fitness do I need?
